AFTER all that England World Cup-winning nostalgia from 50 years ago, Blades fans can do some of their own. Take a trip down memory lane with this terrific look back at one of those rare seasons for Sheffield United when everyone – players, fans, manager chairman and directors – emerged with smiles on their faces.
It's 2005-06 when the Blades won promotion back to the Premier League. A season that, as always, began in hope and expectation. It ended with an open top bus tour of the city centre and joyous scenes as thousands of fans amassed outside Sheffield Town Hall. Anything seemed possible after that. No-one can have imagined then what would happen to the club after just one season in the top tier that followed.
Come next May when hopefully United will have another promotion to look back on, it will be 10 years and counting since the Blades were a Premier League club, six of them in League One.
The film, made by Televideo Productions 2006, lasts for an hour and 50 minutes so you might want to watch it in bite-sized chunks. Or like me, settle down in a quiet corner and immerse yourself in a campaign which embodied everything Sheffield United is about. Click arrow on the clapperboard.
